Customised Test Plans

Every laboratory has unique requirements. That is why we offer the flexibility for you to customise your own calibration test plan — so the service matches your exact application, quality system, or compliance needs.

What You Can Customise

  • Specific volumes tested across the pipette's working range
  • Number of readings per volume (from 4 up to 10 or more)
  • Tolerance limits — ISO 8655, manufacturer specifications, or your own customer-defined values
  • Reporting format to match your existing quality system

Standards and Compliance

Our calibration methodology follows ISO 8655 guidelines, ensuring measurements are performed to a recognised international standard whichever test plan you choose.

Trust AccuCal to keep your pipettes in optimal condition and enhance the precision of your scientific work. Accuracy Above All is our promise to you.

Customised test plans are available with the ISO 8655 or Customer specification options.

Our Post Service and Calibration Process

Every pipette we receive goes through three clearly defined stages — so you know exactly what you're paying for and exactly what's been done.

Step 1 — Servicing

We disassemble each pipette and thoroughly clean the internal parts, including the piston, applying manufacturer-suggested lubricant. We check the performance of the O-ring and seal. Spare parts are not included as standard — if a part replacement is needed, we will always seek your authorisation before fitting it, so there are no surprise costs.

Step 2 — Calibration

We offer multiple levels of calibration so you can choose the depth of service that matches your application. Our calibrations range from a quick two-volume check with four readings per volume — ideal for routine verification — up to a three-volume check with ten readings per volume for higher confidence and more detailed documentation.

All measurements are performed on calibrated analytical balances in a temperature- and humidity-controlled environment, and checked against manufacturer specifications, the ISO 8655 standard, or your own customer-defined tolerances.

Step 3 — Finalisation

Once the pipette passes calibration, we clean the external body with isopropyl alcohol and apply an electronic identification sticker showing: calibration date, next due date, serial number, certificate number, engineer's initials, and a scannable QR code linking back to the certificate.

Whether you post your pipettes to us or our engineer visits your laboratory, please complete a decontamination form first so we can confirm all instruments are safe to handle. Your full calibration certificates are provided once the service is complete.

Pre-Calibration Service (As Found)

Our pre-calibration (As Found) service assesses the current performance of your pipette without any servicing or adjustments. Ideal for routine verification, baseline checks before further work, or simply confirming a pipette is operating within specification.

Step 1 — Performance Check

We calibrate your pipette in its current state, without prior cleaning, lubrication, or part replacement. Calibration is performed at the volumes and reading depth appropriate to the level you choose — from a quick two-volume check with four readings per volume, up to a three-volume check with ten readings per volume. All measurements are taken on calibrated analytical balances in a temperature- and humidity-controlled environment, and compared against manufacturer specifications, the ISO 8655 standard, or your own customer-defined tolerances.

Step 2 — Certification and Reporting

Each pipette receives a Certificate of Calibration indicating whether it has passed or failed against the chosen specification, along with the measured values, deviation from nominal, standard deviation, and tolerance limits applied. An electronic identification sticker is also applied to the pipette showing the next calibration due date, serial number, certificate number, engineer's initials, and a scannable QR code linking back to the certificate.

This service gives you a clear, documented understanding of your pipette's condition before any further action is taken. If servicing or adjustment is recommended, we can follow up with our full Post Service and Calibration Process.
How often should pipettes be calibrated?
Most laboratories calibrate pipettes every 3 to 6 months, though high-precision work, GLP compliance, or critical applications may require more frequent checks. The ISO 8655 standard recommends calibration at least once a year, with shorter intervals for pipettes in heavy daily use. AccuCal can help you establish a calibration schedule that matches your workload and quality requirements.
What is ISO 8655 and why does it matter?
ISO 8655 is the international standard that defines the performance requirements, testing methods, and quality assurance for piston-operated volumetric apparatus, including pipettes. It specifies how accuracy and precision should be measured, what equipment is acceptable, and what tolerances apply for each pipette volume. AccuCal's calibration service follows ISO 8655 methodology, ensuring your results are technically reliable and audit-ready.
What does AccuCal's pipette calibration include?
Each pipette receives a multi-point gravimetric test at the required volumes, performed on calibrated analytical balances in a temperature and humidity controlled environment. Calibration can be carried out at your laboratory (most customers prefer onsite) or by post. Tests are performed against manufacturer specifications, the ISO 8655 standard, or your own customer-defined tolerances — let us know which is required for your application. We measure both accuracy and precision and issue a detailed calibration certificate. Minor adjustments and seal replacements can be carried out as part of the same service.
Do you offer onsite pipette calibration?
Yes — onsite calibration is what most of our customers choose. Our engineer visits your laboratory with all the equipment needed and calibrates your pipettes on the bench, usually completing the work within a single visit. This avoids downtime, removes the risk of damage in transit, and means your pipettes are calibrated under the conditions they actually work in. Onsite visits are available across the UK and can be scheduled around your workflow.
Which pipette brands do you calibrate?
AccuCal calibrates all major pipette brands and models, including Eppendorf, Gilson, Sartorius, Starlab, Rainin (Mettler Toledo), Thermo Scientific (Finnpipette), BRAND, Socorex, and Hamilton, plus electronic and multi-channel models. If you have a less common brand, send us a model number and we will confirm we can service it.
Do you provide a calibration certificate?
Yes. Every pipette comes with a full calibration certificate showing the volumes tested, the measured values, the deviation from nominal, the standard deviation, the tolerances applied, the date of calibration, and the next recommended calibration date. Certificates are formatted to satisfy audit requirements and are accepted by most laboratory quality systems.
How much does pipette calibration cost?
Costs depend on the type of pipette (single-channel, multi-channel, electronic), the volumes tested, whether you choose onsite or postal calibration, and whether minor servicing is included. For an accurate quote tailored to your inventory, please use our online quote form or contact us directly. Most quotes are returned within one working day.
What is the difference between calibration and servicing?
Calibration measures your pipette's accuracy and precision against the chosen specification (manufacturer, ISO 8655, or your own tolerances) and produces a certificate confirming its current performance. Servicing replaces worn parts such as seals, O-rings, and pistons to restore performance. AccuCal can do either or both during the same visit. If a calibration shows your pipette is out of spec, we will usually service and re-calibrate as part of the same job to minimise downtime.
